French Collages
2025-present
French Collages is a visual exploration of the fragile relationship between human perception and the natural environment. Built through acts of reclamation, these collages are made from rediscovered images and discarded papers, gifted to me or gathered from various locations in France. Accented with gold and silver acrylic paint, they reflect the dual nature of human engagement with landscape: both destructive and reverential.
This work began as a personal response to environmental anxiety but evolved into a quiet act of archival restoration by treating the environment like a damaged manuscript, repaired with care and attention. The use of gold and silver echoes the Japanese practice of kintsugi, where
breakage becomes visible, and damage is acknowledged and mended rather than hidden.
